Halabja

On March 16, 1988, Saddam Hussein murdered 5,000 people in the town of Halabja, not terribly far from where I'm writing this. Here's a picture of both my Regimental and Squadron Commander laying a wreath at the memorial.

As you can see, the mountains in the background indicate that much of the affected area was in a valley where the gas settled, causing the maximum amount of painful death. The poison gas that killed these defenseless civilians is commonly referred to as a Weapon of Mass Destruction (WMD). This picture is a handy reference for those that say Saddam did not have WMDs.
