Incoherent hippies invade Centennial Park

This article sums up some of the most unattractive aspects of today's political left.

''What we call for is to bring the troops home,'' said Matt Leber, coordinator of Nashville Peace & Justice Center, ''and the United Nations takes the lead. So the United States would not be the primary decision maker but primarily fund the rebuilding of Iraq.''

So Matt wants to inflict UN troops guilty of horrible crimes against humanity on innocent Iraqi men, women and children and have US taxpayers fund it. A major omission in this article that is the fault of the Tennessean writer or editor is that President Bush spent 1 1/2 years before the war asking the UN to get involved (by enforcing their own resolutions) and they refused. We asked them to get involved in the rebuilding process and they refused. Mr. Leber needs to either start reading the newspaper or take an ethics class.

While TennCare doesn't have the money to take care of the most impoverished American citizens, we've already spent $150 million on the war, Leber said.
No worries there, Matt. I'm sure Tennessee's Governor has a fix in the works for TennCare. He made it the central issue of his candidacy in 2002. I'll not comment on the $150 million except to say it's a tad more than that.

Melody Stevens from Hendersonville, who originally came to Centennial Park to walk, didn't know about the rally until a man gave her a flier.
''We shouldn't be there (Iraq),'' Stevens said after joining the protest. ''There's no reason for it. We could be using the money for so many other things than that.''
Ah, the modern liberal mind on display. Money for the war should certainly be taken from taxpayers, but if the war is not prosecuted, the money should not be returned to taxpayers. What to do with it then?

She believes the money could be better spent on protecting the environment.
Now I imagine Miss Melody has no clue what she means by this but I think it's a litte sick that she would prefer we stop our humanitarian mission here (helping Iraqis provide potable water, electricity, basic medical care, etc to the population) to go hunt for spotted owl nests. It borders on heartless.

''I think all war is wrong,'' said Mary McKinney of Nashville. McKinney had her three children with her, including her 2-year-old son in a sling on her chest.
What the article does not mention is that she spoke her words in English, not German or Russian. However, the language of naivete is grating in any dialect.

Liberals today are isolationists in an era when that's simply not feasible. We tried it and we got Pearl Harbor. We tried it again and we got 9/11. Worse, they think America incapable of moral action on the world stage yet believe US citizens should fund it through the corrupt, immoral UN. Once upon a time, the left claimed to be for human rights. No more. They have thrown down the banner and President Bush, to his great credit, picked it up.
